Hidden Valley Mustangs Baseball 3-8 South Umpqua / Days Creek
Hidden Valley's perfect start to the baseball season came to an end Thursday afternoon as the Mustangs dropped an 8-3 decision to South Umpqua / Days Creek in non-league action at home.
The visiting Lancers jumped on Hidden Valley early and never looked back, building a comfortable lead that the Mustangs couldn't overcome despite a late rally attempt. South Umpqua's balanced offensive attack proved too much for Hidden Valley's pitching staff, which had been stellar through the first three games of the season.
Hidden Valley managed to plate three runs but couldn't string together the timely hits needed to mount a serious comeback against a determined South Umpqua squad. The loss drops the Mustangs to 3-1 on the young season, still a solid start despite the setback.
While the perfect record is gone, Hidden Valley has shown plenty of promise in the early going. The Mustangs will look to bounce back quickly as they continue building toward league play in the coming weeks.
