Caldera defeated Crater 7-5 in a non-league softball matchup Tuesday evening. The Central Point-based Comets, competing in the Midwestern League (5A), couldn't quite complete a late push against their hosts in what became a back-and-forth affair. Despite entering with strong momentum from their conference play, Crater found themselves trailing early and unable to fully close the gap. The Comets managed to plate five runs but left opportunities on the base paths as Caldera's offense proved just enough to secure the victory. The loss drops Crater to 22-7 overall while maintaining their solid 15-3 conference record. Coach will likely use this non-league test as a learning opportunity, identifying areas to tighten up before postseason play begins. With league standings secure, these final tune-up games allow Crater to experiment with different approaches and build depth across the roster. The Comets return home looking to bounce back and continue their preparation for what promises to be a strong playoff run in the coming weeks.
